The first session is a space to slow down, get to know one another, and understand what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll explore your goals, concerns, and what you’re hoping for from support. There’s no pressure to share everything at once — therapy is paced collaboratively and guided by what feels safe and helpful for you.
Sessions are tailored to your individual needs, goals, and pace. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. In general, sessions involve exploring your thoughts, emotions, and experiences within a space of collaboration, respect, and warmth. Together, you and your therapist will identify patterns, build coping strategies, and work toward meaningful change in a way that feels steady and supportive.

Professional registration and regulation vary by country:
• Canada: Services are provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). In Ontario, psychotherapy is a legally regulated health profession with protected title and defined scope of practice. In British Columbia, services are provided in accordance with provincial regulations governing counselling and psychotherapy.
• Australia: Services are provided as counselling and psychotherapy, in line with relevant Australian regulations. The title “psychologist” is a protected title in Australia and is not currently used.
• England: Services are offered in accordance with UK counselling and psychotherapy practice standards. While “psychotherapist” is not a legally protected title in England, services are delivered in alignment with recognised professional and ethical frameworks. The title “psychologist” is protected and is not currently used.
A psychotherapist provides talk therapy for a wide range of emotional, relational, and mental health concerns using evidence-informed approaches. In Ontario, Canada, a psychotherapist holds a protected title as a government regulated health professional. Requirements include formal registration, graduate-level education, supervised clinical training, ongoing professional development, and adherence to strict ethical and practice standards. Psychotherapists may offer clinical impressions and provisional assessments but do not provide formal psychological diagnoses.
Training backgrounds for psychotherapists may include psychotherapy, psychology, or social work, depending on jurisdiction and regulatory body. You can learn more about our training, credentials, and approach here.(https://www.avaiyaclinic.com/meetourfounder)
A psychologist holds a protected title that requires advanced university training in psychology and formal registration. Psychologists are qualified to diagnose mental health disorders and may conduct psychological assessments and testing.

Integrative psychotherapy draws from multiple evidence-based approaches to tailor therapy to your unique needs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, therapy is adapted based on your goals, experiences, nervous system patterns, relationships, and values.
There is no fixed timeline. Some people seek short-term support around a specific issue, while others engage in longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and healing. We’ll regularly check in to ensure therapy continues to feel supportive and aligned with your goals.
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of psychotherapy. There are limited legal and ethical exceptions (such as risk of harm to yourself or others), which will be explained clearly during the consent process.

Coverage for psychotherapy and counselling varies by country and insurer:
• Canada: Many extended health insurance plans cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP or RP Qualifying). We are accepted by insurers such as Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life (Great-West Life), Blue Cross Blue Shield, Desjardins, GreenShield, and Equitable, among others.
• Australia: Some private health insurers offer rebates for counselling and psychotherapy. Medicare rebates are limited to registered psychologists under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Psychology sessions in Australia commonly range from $220–$280 AUD per session, with a Medicare rebate of approximately $90–$140 AUD for up to 10 sessions per calendar year, leaving a remaining out-of-pocket cost of $80-$190. Psychotherapy and counselling services are typically privately paid, with fees often ranging from $140–$200 AUD per session, depending on the provider and service type.
• England: Some private insurers provide partial reimbursement for counselling and psychotherapy.
We recommend confirming coverage directly with your provider.
Private-pay therapy allows for greater flexibility, continuity of care, and a pace that is guided by your needs rather than external limits. It supports a collaborative therapeutic process that isn’t restricted by session caps, diagnoses, or reporting requirements.
For many clients, this creates a more spacious and personalised experience — one that can adapt as your goals, circumstances, and capacity change over time.
